The Board of Directors of the East Bay Regional Parks District is reviewing proposals to operate the watersports rental concession at Lake Del Valle Park. The Directors will decide a course of action as early as this week or next. For the last eight years Sunrise Mountain Sports, a family-owned business based in Livermore and serving the Tri-Valley for almost four decades, has operated the Kayak Center, serving over 15,000 park visitors in 2013 with rentals, classes, tours, and group events. Join this petition to encourage the Board to renew this concession.
Unfortunately, the Kayak Center is under threat, as the administrative staff has decided to recommend another concessionaire to the Board. The reasoning is unclear, especially since the proposed company promises to pay a significantly lesser percentage of revenues to the park. Therefore, not only does this decision threaten to disrupt the opportunities currently offered at the Park, but also it could result in reduced revenues received by the Parks District which could be used for other facilities or services.
Sunrise Mountain Sports is the right choice to operate the watersports concession at Lake Del Valle Regional Park. Sunrise is located closest to the lake, is the outfitter most connected to the local community, and is the most experienced with watersports recreation.

The Sunrise kayaking class I took allowed me to see the Lake in an entirely new, very tranquil way. Without their facility I would not have access to this sport at Del Valle. EBRPD benefits when park users can enjoy all aspects of a facility.
the boat house run by Sunrise Mountain Sports is a trendous asset to not only Livemore residents for the entire East Bay. I live in Oakland and Del Valle is the only place in the region where you can rent a sea kayak and paddle it in a lake.
One of the things that distinguishes the Lake Del Valle Kayak Center from every other place in the Bay Area where I can rent a kayak is the quality and condition of the available equipment. The proposed replacement is a big step in the wrong direction.
Sunrise has been running the concession successfully for years. They have a great safety record because they tell people how to paddle and be safe. I have introduced so many people to kayaking and loving del valle because of Sunrise.
I've been a customer of Sunrise Mountain Sports for many, many years, and have always been very satisfied with their services, including the kayak center at Del Valle. I have also been a reasonably large donor to the East Bay Regional Parks District in past years.

As a former EBRPD employee I think that Sunrise Mountain Sports should remain in Lake Del Valle. Sunrise has an amazing crew and I know this because I have been priveliged to know the owners.Enen though I no longer live in the area I know people that still go to Del Valle for kayaking.

The Kayak Center is awesome. My sons have worked there and myself, friends and other family have used their kayaks and paddle boards. Don't take it away. There are so few outdoor activities available anymore that get kids away from their computers and TV.
