The Duke of Edinburgh's Award in Kirklees currently works with over 6000 young people. They give a great deal of support to vulnerable young people including those with disabilities.

Kirklees Council are planning to cut all Open Access Youth Services including the DofE Award and also the nationally acclaimed WACKY activity programme for young people with a disability.

Reaching one hundred signatures feels like a heavy weight has been acknowledged by others. I am exhausted by this fight but seeing these names keeps me moving forward.

My daughter was lucky enough to access this brilliant service where she could experience activities that she couldn't get anywhere else that really helped her think enabled rather than disabled. Shame Kirklees think this is a luxury that we can do without.

I've just done my Gold Expedition through Kirklees DofE - returned home from it today. Kirklees DofE offers excellent benefits to those who go on it, it shouldn't be scrapped and should remain available to assist those wanting to do DofE

D. of E. will go on but it would become the privilege of the better off youngsters supported by better off parents in the way that the Kirklees Music Service has already. This is not what the staff and volunteers want nor, surely, what the Council want.

This is where investment of money is needed. What society gets out in terms of 'interest repaid' is mature young adults learning life skills, problem solving, being outside of your comfort zone. This is exactly where I want to see my council tax going.

My son is completing his d of e gold at the moment and he also benefits greatly from wacky you are very short sighted removing something which is a great acolade and greatly improves his job prospects which are already limited due to bis disability.

Cuts need to be made but by cuting this service the effect will be creat problems elsewhere as they help vulnerable young people The DofE is recognised by employers as an asset just as GCSE's are. Kirklees DofE also provide valuable help to other groups

Such a life changing award! Far to valuable to young peoples lives to lose. Eventually the government/local government will realise... when it is to late.
