On the 7th January South Essex College in Southend on Sea made a proposed decision to close the Jungle Cats Nursery that is located within the college. The reasoning for this is to create more classroom space for the students at the college and university. The size of the nursery is not massive, but big enough for the 70 children that the nursery care for, the college will only be gaining a very small amount of space to create maybe two classrooms at most.
The staff that work at the nursery are a wonderful and dedicated bunch of ladies and this close has come as absolutely devastating news to them. There is a consultation period that finishes on the 8th of February. During this time the staff and the parents of the children that attend the nursery are given the opportunity to give their reasons as to why the nursery should stay open.
This closure will mean loss of jobs, the loss of an offstead outstanding nursery, distruption to the children, the parents will have to find alternative care for their children and most of all it is a terrible descision by the college.
Please take the time to sign this petition as we are trying to get as many signatures on here by the time the consultation period is over so that we can show the college how much of a big mistake they are making.

This nursery is an excellent resource for staff, students and others. The space gained for teaching facilities would be miniscule compared with the chasm left by its closure. Could space for teaching not be found in the vast atrium?
Please don't close it! This is where I was planning on sending Jack when I go back to college in September. You will loose so many students who are parents because they cannot find alternative childcare for their children. So what's the point in expanding?
Do not close this resource for parents trying to better their and their families lives by returning to study. If students have to take their preschool age children elsewhere this will aid even greater strain ( through travel time etc) to their lives.
The staff here are amazing! They have helped me with issues with my child with support I did not know was available. It's a fantastic site on the college which helps the staff and student who work and attend there. Do not close it down. The provision is excellent!
My sister works here looking after the childrens breakfast lunch etc and their nutritional needs. She has sweated blood for this job that she absolutely loves and i am disgusted that its going to shut just because of a coiple of extra classrooms, its wrong!!!!

This is essentially down to the poor decisions made by the architecture firm that provided more style than substance. Jungle Cats serves a great purpose for the community unlike the large open space used for indoor badminton and giant chess board. Hear hear!
