SAVE JUNGLE CATS NURSERY!!!

According to a recent staff bulletin the decision has been made to close jungle cats. Although I will not be directly affected by the closure, I have listened to others talk about how this will affect them. I have worked at SEC for 14 years and I really hoped things would be different. I am not sure if I am more disappointed in the decision or disappointed in the people that made it. Not realising that the same values that make students successful apply equally to staff.

My daughter, spent the formative years of her life attending the Nusery, then the older school age children’s holiday club. She gained & developed enormously emotionally & intellectually from the time that she spent there, and her transition into school was enhanced and made so much easier because of this. It also made it possible for me to return to work! At the time that I decided to return to work I was unable to drive, and I would have found it very difficult to have managed without the convenience of the nursery facility in my place of work…especially because of the fact that I have a disability that would have made it difficult for me to have had to travel first to a nursery and then onto work!! Aside from myself, I imagine huge impact that this decision is going to have on current members of staff and perspective student’s to whom the Nursery is such a precious asset! How many of potential student’s with children will now NOT decide to attend this college because of this decision…we will never know! If this is to gain more teaching space within the college, this is yet another sticking-plaster solution to an on-going problem that will occur every year! The staff at the nursery have won college awards, at one ceremony in particular during the speech it was stated "to the wonderful people who look after our most precious possessions, our children” and they have most decidedly always done that! My daughter is really heartbroken to hear of the closure…she was so very much looking forward to her work experience with you all and the opportunity to spending some time back in a place that she has really wonderful memories of spending her early childhood in…we will never forget you all…it would be lovely to think that the college may re-think this decision, but sadly I doubt that will happen...please re-consider as this Nursery is a HUGE asset to the college!!

Finding childcare is hard. I can only imagine that less mums will attend the college as they won't have alternative childcare.

It's a shame they plan to close this nursery. There aren't many nurseries available in the area that are close to learning facilities such as the college and the University aswell. It will unsettle the children and add extra stress to parents who will need to find other nurseries that have availability for their child!

My daughter attended Jungle Cats, by the time she was going to reception she had learnt so much owing to the dedicated teaching and love that she received. Closing Jungle Cats will be very retrogressive because the future belongs to work places and Universities where students, teachers and staff can have a nursery to leave their children.

The college will only gain a small space at the high cost of loosing a wonderful nursery.

Seriously reconsider, must be an better way of finding more space than making it harder for students with young children to better themselves!
