To Legacy Health: President, Board of Trustees, and to Whom It May Concern:
We, the undersigned community members, are opposed to the decision made by Legacy Health to close down and repurpose Hopewell House, 6171 SW Capitol Hwy., Portland 97239. It has been providing exceptional and essential services to our community for decades, and it is vitally important that it continue.
We strongly urge Legacy Health to reconsider this decision, to remove the present closing date, and to work with a representative group to find a solution for continuance of care. Hopewell House was built on property donated by the Henningsen family; the funding to complete acquisition and to build the caregiving wing was raised from Foundations and individuals. These services and this sacred place must be preserved for future generations.

There is a pressing need for hospice places when the families are unable to do 24 hour care. The baby boomers are going to need these facilities even more in the next 15 to 20 years. A lot of us do not have the support of families to help us when we are dying.
My sweet niece died with dignity at Hopewell House. Their care was beyond incredible. She was there over 2 months and they allowed her family to be there for her around the clock. I am sickened that this beautiful place and its staff might end.
Keeping hopewell open for the community allows many patients on hospice to die in a setting that aligns with their goals of care. Forcing them into a hospital with staff who is not trained in the specific care a hospice patient requires is tragic.
Please don’t close this valuable asset to our community. The care they have given to our dying neighbors has been stellar. We are forming a group to help fund Hopewell House in the hopes that this will help change Legacy’s mind about closing this facility.
This was the only place I trusted to provide much needed respite when we were caring for my father on hospice. Please don’t take this from families who are dealing with the most painful time of life. We need another hopewell, not to have it taken away.

End of life services like the Hopewell House are important to maintaining a compassionate and caring community. Lets keep this wonderful place open and available to everyone.

My dear friend Ashleigh was married here and passed here. Without this place all the people who love her would not of had the chance to witness her wedding and give proper final goodbyes. The people who work here give love and support in the hardest of times.
