PETITION TO ASCENSION AND ST. FRANCIS HOSPITAL LEADERSHIP:

St. Francis Hospital has been a pillar in our community and our valued access-point to quality, affordable healthcare for over sixty years. It is where we go to receive excellent patient care from the dedicated staff who are our patrons, neighbors, relatives and friends.

As residents of Milwaukee’s Southside, we implore you to continue to operate St. Francis as a responsible corporate owner. Any drastic or even moderate changes, such as layoffs, service closures, or reductions in pay or benefits for the workforce, could potentially have severe ripple effects throughout our community--harming local businesses, property values and our ability to receive quality, affordable healthcare.

As you make decisions regarding our community hospital, please focus on workers and the community and put patients over profits.

Specifically, we ask that you:

1) Keep St. Francis Hospital open, affordable, and accessible to our community.

2) Do not close services, layoff or reduce the pay or benefits of our neighbors who work in your hospitals.

3) Become a genuine part of our community and partner with our community before making changes to our community.

We need to keep this hospital safe and accessible for the community, which means reasonable staffing levels for nursing staff, interpreter services and social workers to help with connecting underserved patients with community resources.

As an RN in ICU we are seeing tripling of inappropriate patient assignments, staff nurses being given inappropriate ICU patient assignments, and frequent mandation. Our ICU bed census should have been capped weeks ago. As a result the ICU continues to loose experienced Nurses.

The first part of healthcare is 'heal',not profit. The Hypocratic oath begins "First, do no harm." Shuttering St Francis, and/or reducing staff/services would be in direct conflict with both of the above-listed tenents. Do the correct thing for your patients and the community.

St. Francis plays a vital role in my health care. I live closer to St. Luke's but have never gone there. St. Francis big enough to meet my medical needs yet small enough to meet my expectation to be treated as a valuable client. It's a feeling that I never get when I walk into most medical facility.

I have been at St. Francis for 42 years. I love my job and my Union that allows me to contribute my voice in this hospital. We need this community hospital and all the services to allow a choice for our neighbors. St. Francis has been here 60 years,I want to celebrate it's centennial celebration.

My now passed and beloved Mother was a Franciscan nun prior to meeting my Father. She also was a RN with a masters degree in nursing education who taught and served as an orthopedic nurse for over forty years. Please honor her many years of selfless service by respecting those who continue to serve their communities.

I am a former employee and feel that St Francis staff do a great service to their community. Don't change a thing or my next Colonoscopy won't be done there - I have a choice of hospitals and my insurance covers St Francis, my first choice. !
