The massive surge of support proves that Hertfordshire County Council cannot simply pave over our community needs. Their attempts to silence us through these backroom consultations are failing because of your refusal to back down.

The recycling centre is an essential part of the Elstree and Borehamwood community. There has been a dramatic increase in fly tipping while it has been shut putting the health of residents, especially children, at risk.
Site is needed for local people to get rid of their rubbish /recycling and also jobs are at risk in this bad enough time
Back to square 1 as Herts County Council have again showed they have no brains or an understanding of the value of recycling plants. If they close Elstrtee i bet my life that there will be a big increase in fly tipping and smaller items in the black bags. Many of us have old TVs radios hoovers gas and Electric appliances we take to the recycling plant. A 10 minute drive at present or less compared to 45 minutes if we go to one of the other sites. Petrol is on the increase find a convenient field to dump unwanted items that will be the unfortunate case HERTS COUNTY THINK BEFORE OPENING MOUTH
My husband has been to the recycling depot in Potters Bar today, as the bin was full at Elstree. He was informed by the member of staff at Potters bar that Elstree was closing, and that Potters bar would only be open for 5 days a week with reduced hours. Obviously the decision has already been made!
It is absolutely vital that everyone also gives their views directly to HCC during their consultation process by using the link below (copy and paste if necessary). Signing this petition is absolutely not enough. But your specific opinions and useages and actual tonnage of waste recycled via the recycling centre will carry more weight (literally). Remember that HCC and the amenity contractors will be analysing the tonnage factor as evidence of useage and not signatures on a petition! This is too valuable to get rid of and it will only cost the council more in the long run to clear all the fly tipping if it closes, you only have to look at what happened during covid.
This is a well needed resource which if taken away will increase fly tipping

Why would you want to close a centre that is used by many? Isn’t it a service that should be provided by the council for its residence? It’s not like the centre is not being used. Where would we take our unrated household items? 5 miles away?
