Cultural Fest as you know has always been the biggest Townsville event where ALL of us get together. As of this year, many PERFORMERS will not be performing for specific reasons, which might not be appropriate to say.
You may have seen the prices for the ENTRANCE fee have risen every year and this event was once FREE. The PERSON who BOUGHT Cultural Fest off the council is USING everyone who has been a part of the event for many years.
Just so YOU know, we PERFORMERS do NOT get PAID, we perform because WE WANT TO SHARE OUR CULTURE WITH YOU and WE DO IT FOR FREE. The people who have art, crafts and food stalls, ARE ALSO NOT PAID, they PAY at least $1,000 fee to put up their stall, this is out of THEIR money.
All the people in each stall spend THEIR OWN TIME cooking and creating items for all of you. SO..with the support of Townsville, there will a PETITION, while saying this, I myself, a performer of the Filipino Community and our group will not be performing, along with many other communities this year.
I SPEAK for all performers, and stall vendors of Cultural Fest. Many of us have been a part of this SINCE THE BEGINNING and it is NOT FAIR on YOUR BEHALF AND OURS that WE have to SPEND all OUR MONEY.
Cultural Fest is LOSING a lot of people and its’ DIGNITY about the TRUE SPIRIT OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY.
So PLEASE PM ME, for the petition, this is done electronically.

I truly never imagined that so many of you would care enough to stop and listen to what we are saying about the festival. This momentum belongs entirely to the people of Townsville who refuse to let our traditions be pushed aside. You are the ones showing everyone that our community spirit cannot be bought or sold.

My wife has had a craft stall for 5 years and this new fee is just robbery. Cant believe they treat the locals like this.
Absolute shame. The performers are what made this event special. They deserve way more respect than this.
Used to be free for everyone now its just expensive garbage. Count me out.
Used to be the best day of the year in townsville. Now its just a money grab for greedy owners. Bring back the old fest!
Total greed. If the stall holders arent making a profit why should the owner get rich off their hard work? Disgraceful.

Bring back our fest! Stop charging people to share their culture!
