ive been reading through all the stories people are sharing about their time at independence and honestly its heartbreaking to think about them shutting us down. we are still trying to get a meeting with the board but for now just keep talking to your neighbors about why this place matters so much.

As an alumni of both Independence (87) and Maybury as well as Walnut Heights. My father still lives in the heights. Closing both schools in once community would not only devastate the children but it would also devastate the home equity of the whole community.

I am a graduate of Independence High school Class of 2001. Independence provided me a great education and opportunities for success that I was able to use in college and graduate school. I owe much of my success to the education, experiences, staff, and fellow class mates from Independence. Keep Independence open.

As a teacher at Liberty Elementary, which sits directly behind Independence, I have had the privilege of watching my former students grow into successful young adults and graduate from Independence. I have even been given the privilege of handing several of them their diplomas. The students at Independence are tutors, mentors, and interns for the kids at Liberty. Losing this partnership will impact the future of our elementary age students.

I am a graduate of 1980. This school has a lot of rich history and is the bicentennial school of Columbus. Closing such a historic piece of history is all about politics and not what is right. Do what is right. Busing the area children to other school will cost more in money than leaving the school open and providing quality education

Independence was built because Walnut Ridge was not handicap accessible. That hasn't changed. There are many reasons why Independence and Maybury should not be closed. Closing either of these two schools will create such a hardship not only to the parents of the students but to the surrounding neighborhoods as well. Please tell us the "real" agenda here. Administration is not telling us the whole story.
