I am a current student at THE Ohio State University, but more importantly a alumni of Independence High School. This school taught me everything that I needed to know to help me succeed in college. This is not just a high school, this is a family, the feeling that you get from Independence is one that can not be explained but only understood by the people who attended this school. I can go back any day and still feel at home. DO NOT close Independence!! Save I-HIGH

I was one of the first students at IHS and was in the third graduating class. Both of my children also graduated from IHS. It is important to have "neighborhood" schools as it builds a sense of belonging and pride.

I am a graduate of Independence High school Class of 2001. Independence provided me a great education and opportunities for success that I was able to use in college and graduate school. I owe much of my success to the education, experiences, staff, and fellow class mates from Independence. Keep Independence open.

C/O 2006. Independence gave me not only my education but my mentors, my best friends, and the life lessons that have me the strong person and young successful professional that I am today! I am speaking not only as a graduate but as a community member of Walnut Heights. For the past 20 years I have lived here, throughout these years I have seen my neighborhood slowly decline due to hard economic times, taking away our schools, both Independence HS and Maybury ES will be the ultimate demise to the Walnut Heights community, retirees will not be able to sell their houses, property value will decrease, crime rates & juvenile delinquency will increase, the sell and use of drugs will increase, sex offenders will have the opportunity to live here, shutting down our schools is not only an INJUSTICE to the students, parents, teachers, and faculty/staff, but it is also an INJUSTICE to the community of Walnut Heights. Sending our kids to new schools, forcing them into environments where no body knows them, teachers don't understand them, and where they ultimately have to start over will be devastating to them. For our HS, sending them to Walnut Ridge is the LAST thing you should do. Does our board not remember all of the riots and fights that broke out at games not only because of the athletic rivalry but because of the personal/neighborhood rivalries and problems between students from these schools??? being fiscally responsible is the boards responsibility, they haven't done that job correctly in it seems ages, and now our kids are the ones on the chopping block?? Doesn't seem right to me?

We need our community High School open Great changes are happening there and our community kids feel safe there and parents feel safe for there kids walking to school. This community has been through so much and taking Independence away will devastate the community.

Everything that I am is because of my teachers and coaches from Independence. Without them, I may never have attended and graduated from THE Ohio State University. I also had the privilege of coaching soccer there for about five years and met some of the greatest young adults I've ever had the opportunity to be around and try to mentor the same way that the Independence staff did for me. This school and this community need to stay in tact. Find another way to save money. Stop busing kids across the city if their home school should be Independence. I don't care how you do it. Just keep our school where it is and let these students and this staff show you what I-High can really do!
