Coach Sergio is officially staying at TPES and the administration finally backed down. We forced them to recognize his value to our children after they tried to push him out. Keep watching the school board because they need to know we are paying attention.

UPDATE FROM COACH SERGIO:
I'd like to thank every single one of you, from the bottom of my heart eternally, for your comments, kind words, and signing this petition. I am humbled, extremely happy, and feel so so blessed to have the support of all of you. I've had some really great things happened to me in my life, but this is at the very top of it!!!
Besides the birth of my daughter Gabrielle, nothing else compares to the feeling of knowing I've served, am serving and will continue to serve the children of our beloved Torrey Pines Elementary School and our community!!! All of our children deserve the best of all of us, and if I can contribute at least just a little bit every day, it makes me want to do more and more.
To all the parents for trusting in me your must precious treasure, which I love and value like my own, every single one of them-
To the La Jolla YMCA and the Torrey Pines Elementary School Foundation, La Jolla Kiwanis, and Junior Olympics Team-
For all these 30+ years of support and guidance, I couldn't ask for better people to partner with. I am extremely and eternally grateful!!! THIS IS TEAM WORK!!!!
And it would not be be right for me to take credit for it all!!! To my friends and family and especially, my daughter Gabrielle Cabrera, for her unconditional love and support throughout our journey together!!!!
I love you all and thank you for your kind words and support. I'm so happy to announce that I have signed my contract with the La Jolla YMCA, and this contract is for me to continue working with the children at TPES.
I will continue to do my best to be the best that I can be to serve others for as long as I can.

Coach Sergio embodies the heart and soul of our TPES community. For over 30 years, he has taught sports enrichment and has been a support to generations of TPES students and families. He has far more experience that any other sports specialist in this field. But now, during this difficult pandemic year, he might be losing his job at our school because of some administrative obstacle.
Let’s put the people we love and our kids first. We are asking Principal Richard to save Coach Sergio, on behalf of our children and TPES community. Please work with SGT, YMCA, and teachers to make this happen. Coach Sergio has dedicated his entire career to TPES students and families, and this is the right thing to do. Parents have already donated to fund him. We really need to keep him.

The school administration thinks they can ignore us but we are barreling toward 500 signatures. We need to force them to look at these names before they even think about pushing Coach Sergio out.

Coach Sergio had a very positive impact on my children at TPES and the YMCA. He was a role model for good sportsmanship, and conveyed the perfect balance of teamwork, discipline and fun for these ages of kids. Thanks, Coach Sergio!
I have great memories of Sergio teaching my kids PE and athletics with energy and enthusiasm at TPES many years ago. I cannot imagine that there aren’t lower priority budget items with SDUSD than cutting Sergio’s position. Please retain him!
Being new to the school Coach Sergio had already become loved by myself snd my kindergartener. He has a huge presence on campus. He’s calming to be around, and makes me feel like he has time to see you. He definitely cares about people and TPES kids.
Losing Sergio at tpes or anywhere would be a disservice to the children and the community. He deserves better, your children deserve better, the community deserves better. He is the embodiment of all the pillars the Ymca and school preach. 30 years of service! Come on!
I'm not a TPES parent anymore, but I remember Coach Sergio well from when my son went there. Coach Sergio was always supportive, always amazing, and attentive when my son lost his dad. TPES should be moving mountains to make sure they don't lose him.
My Daughter study at TPES and she enjoyed her time there. I remember that Coach Sergio was always there early morning to run with children and their parents. Kids warm out, every kid loved him. He is one of the most important personnel in the school. Physical education is a part of growing up. In this world the is starting to forget the importance of it. Hope that this continues.
Coach Sergio is a dedicated, kind and really caring coach that deserves not only stability in his job but the appreciation and gratitude of countless students under his care for generations. Whom ever is proposing eliminating his position, doesn’t understand the importance of sports in moulding young people into happy, well-adjusted productive adults that the right person can contribute as in the case of Coach Sergio.

Coach Sergio has touched our family's lives over and over and always positively. My son and Daughter Mila and Toby, TPES Alumni, are now 15 and 16 and still ask about Coach Sergio. Simply, Coach Sergio is absolutely the heart and soul of TPES and his Job must be saved.
