Sign the petition to help keep Coach James as TJ Track head coach. Coach James is retiring this year from his teaching position, however he would like to continue coaching the TJ XC and Track & Field Team. However, due to FCPS coach/retirement rules, the first year after retiring, a coach cannot stay. Thus, the administration is currently trying to find a replacement coach.
Coach James has offered to continue as head coach for a year without pay, a clear sign of his commitment and passion for the sport and our team. This petition is an appeal to Rusty Hodges and the administration to let coach James serve as head coach next year as a volunteer, a situation that has previously been performed.
Coach James is a phenomenal coach. His background in and dedication to the sport clearly shows at every practice and every meet. He is knowledgeable, caring, and already familiar with the athletes and the system. From his many years of coaching and dedication, Coach James is well-connected with the many other officials and coaches in the community, and has a well-established influence within such.
Under his coaching, the cross country team has won districts, moved on to regionals, and placed 2nd at states. Countless members of the team have also advanced to regionals and states, and even received all-state recognition in both XC and T&F seasons. And regardless of each athlete's skill level, Coach James is helpful and motivating, pushing each individual to do his/her best. Coach James is much beloved by TJ Running athletes, and we all regard him as an integral part of the Cross Country Track and Field Culture. Please sign this petition to help keep Coach James a part of this great experience that so many TJ students and parents are a part of.

I HAVE BEEN SPENDING MY TIME MEETING WITH OFFICIALS TO PUSH FOR THE VOLUNTEER EXCEPTION AND THE ENERGY IS ABSOLUTELY ELECTRIC!! COACH JAMES IS STILL HOLDING OUT HOPE THAT WE CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN BECAUSE HE TRULY CARES ABOUT THIS TEAM!!

It would be a shame to keep Coach James from coaching next year because of a technicality. He is a great coach and who in their right mind would turn down free help? I hope the school can come to an arrangement to keep Coach James coaching!
After watching Jeff James coach over the last six seasons of TJ running sports, it's clear to me that he brings out the best in every young athlete. His wisdom and encouragement have done wonders for our daughter and her teammates. Keep Coach James at TJ!
Having coached with Jeff, I know his passion and dedication to T.J. track is unparalleled. To lose him would be a detriment to the amazing T.J. community!
Coach James coached me in football nearly 16 years ago, and he helped me a great deal to achieve my athletic potential. TJ should embrace someone who wants to remain part of the community after he has already contributed so much.
Coach James has played an instrumental role in shaping me as an athlete, as a student, and as a person. He taught me that I can push past my limits and achieve more than I thought possible. Replacing Coach James would be robbing current and future TJ athletes of the opportunity to reach new competitive heights. Tragic. #KeepCoachJames
Keep Coach James!
While I, myself, never was a part of the TJ Track team, many of my friends have told me just how influential Coach James has been for the team's success. It seems illogical to fire a coach just for retiring. That is only setting the team up for anything but success. Let Coach James stay!

I took XC and Winter Track with the intention to improve, not to compete. I wasn't much of an athlete, and Coach James understood that. He has helped me shave my mile time by a whole MINUTE and supported me along the way. This is the making of a good coach and nobody knows at this point whether any new coach can be as supportive as Coach James.
