This is a national issue which will be of direct concern to the people of Chelmsford City Council when DEFRA "rolls out" its culling policy in 2014.

The object of the petition is to ensure that Chelmsford City Council's badger population is as safe as possible from slaughter and that the already available injectable badger vaccine against bTB is used in as many cases as possible.

We ask this because we believe the culling policy is inhumane (DEFRA's measurement of "humaneness" is to time the screams of wounded badgers), inefficient (previous culls showed an increase in bTB because of badger movement) and unscientific (the majority of scientific opinion hold that a cull will have "no meaningful result").

To preserve the integrity of this petition please only sign it if you live, work or study in the Chelmsford City Council area.

For details of badger petitions in other parts of England, please contact B-R-A-V-E http://www.b-r-a-v-e.co.uk

We, the undersigned, call on Chelmsford City Council to prohibit the culling of badgers on council-owned land and invest in vaccination programmes locally. We ask this because we believe culling to be inhumane, inefficient and unscientific.

The momentum behind this fight is proof that Chelmsford residents will not stand by while the council considers this barbaric slaughter. Our pressure is mounting and the bureaucrats at DEFRA cannot ignore the clear rejection of their unscientific policies anymore.

Please stop this crime against nature. More than 2/3's of cattle TB infections are via the transportation of cattle. Make the farmers sort this out, and stop this inhumane, costly and un-scientific cull

It is unacceptable for the debate about the culling of badgers to reduce to political rhetoric. All the scientific findings prove that not only is this a barbaric & costly practice… but it just doesn’t work!

I refuse to support any political party who refuses to listen to public opinion or scientific proof and proceeds to kill (without even prior testing) innocent animals who were a protected species until recently. Please listen to us!

This is just so wrong and utterly cruel. I cannot understand why this Government is insisting on going ahead with this action. So much for democracy!

Why on earth are the government not taking any notice of the scientific evidence? This cull has proven to be an abject failure and yet they still don't listen to the facts.

Please listen to Science and not the Environment Secretary.

Look at the research and you will see that culling is not only ineffective and unnecessary it is the more expensive option.
