To Metro Vancouver Regional Parks; Mayor Mike Clay, City of Port Moody; Mayor Ralph Drew, Village of Belcarra
I am signing this petition to express my support for the preservation of the Belcarra South Cottage community.
The cottages are now listed on both the Port Moody Heritage and Canada's Historic Places registries with a statement of significance attributing the cottages' survival to the Belcarra South Preservation Society.
To dismantle this community disrespects local history and disregards those who have helped to preserve it.
The Belcarra South Preservation Society has successfully managed the cottages and provided considerable revenue as well as affordable housing to many tenants since 1976, and continues to do so with an ecological awareness and focus on sustainability.
The additional security they provide within the park and for the Village of Belcarra and the City of Port Moody through interactions with Park staff, DFO, Port Authority, Sasamat Fire Department, Port Moody Police and the RCMP should not be discounted.
I strongly oppose the demolition or relocation of the Belcarra South cottages. Please set aside previous decisions to destroy this small but culturally significant heritage community and choose instead to preserve something that is valuable, unique and irreplaceable.

These are some beautiful buildings that remind me of an era gone by...they are the last of their kind in the Vancouver area and deserve to be protected.
