Athletic Director Tim Giel has stated to numerous individuals that he intends to remove the sports banners from the Avonworth High School Gym this summer. A school board member who stated that he did not think that the board members cared if the banners were permanently removed. If you are in favor of preserving the sports history and fabric of our community, please contact your Avonworth School Board Members. ( Listed Bellow ) AND SIGN THIS PETITION Let your elected officials know that you care and want to KEEP THE BANNERS ! Some talking points are: The banners are part of the proud history of the school and community. The students' names who appeared on the more recent banners are role models for the younger students Student athletes trained and played hard and should continue to be recognized for their athletic excellence and achievements. Alumni athletes whose names appear on the banners return to Avonworth and proudly discuss their successful athletic achievements with their family and friends. Other teams are intimidated to play at Avonworth gym because of the aura of success that the banners project. If necessary, older banners could be moved to the middle gym to make room for the more recent banners. The banners have been paid for by taxpayers' dollars and should not be auctioned for pennies on the dollar. If older banners have been removed an auctioned in the past -- it waS wrong then and is wrong now ! There is no fiscal impact to keeping the banners in the gym. The school board and administration should concentrate on cost saving measures, instead of raising your taxes again -- another 1 mill. (June 4th meeting) We have had six Athletic Directors in the past 10 years. ( Bob Schulz Jim Wehner, Amy Williams Greg Wagner, Chet Furman Tim Giel ) Mr Giel who has been employed for approximately two years and does not reside in the Avonworth School District. He should not be initiating and spearheading the elimination of our the sports legacy of Avonworth. WE DONT KNOW HIS REASONS AT THIS TIME FOR WANTING TO REMOVE THE BANNERS!!!

Please feel contact your friends, team mates, and family members to voice their opinion to the Avonworth School Board Members to save the sports banners. Ridiculous idea. The gym looks empty without them. They show the kids what is possible if you put in the time.

Those banners are the history of this school. You cant just erase all that hard work because you want a blank wall. Leave them alone.

My son worked so hard to get his name on one of those. It means everything to our family to see it hanging there. DO NOT TAKE THEM DOWN.

Been going to games at Avonworth for years. The atmosphere just wont be the same without the banners. Bad move by the AD.

Total nonsense. Taxpayer money bought those banners and they belong to the community. Keep them where they are.
