The district has officially abandoned the proposal to alter the admissions process for Arts High School. Your persistent efforts ensured that the unique character of this institution remains preserved for current and future students. We should remain attentive to future policy changes to ensure this protection stays in place.

Arts High will eventually be eradicated, if Cami Anderson has her way. There is a new Arts charter school opened in Newark, and she's doing her best to have all students interested in the arts to be sent to that school.

- Mandatory extended days (to add extra time for English classes), but not extending the time of arts education or math instruction, for which the district has a low number.

- Common application for NPS that includes Arts High, which eradicates the idea of a magnet school. Even with the audition and acceptance process, there's still a chance for other students to be thrown into the building.

- Opening an arts charter also takes away from the number of applicants for AHS.

And there are other stats as well.

Down with Cami and the oppressive, cooperate monied charter school system which hires people to teach who don't even have a teaching degree. Up with teacher's unions, Arts amazingly dedicated and qualified staff and our historical high school. - Class of 1990.

Both of my children were students of Arts High School...Both are college graduates, both are viable members of their communities and give back...This is what Arts High has instilled in the youth that attend and more. Save Arts High!!!!

Arts High School should remain public. It should not be used as a political pawn to induce private contracts that only help line the pockets of politicians. Let it continue to serve the community that it loves and the is loved in return.

We can not let this happen. Arts High school is historic and should be classified as a national landmark. It was the first school of its kind graduating such big names as Sarah Vaughn, Connie Frances, Melba Moore, Tisha Campbell and a list of new young talent.

This school is a staple in the Newark community, I auditioned to attend Arts High, a good number of my friends attended the school as well...the talent that has came and continuously comes out of this school should be more than enough of a reason to keep it open.

This school is essential to our community. It has launched the careers of so many professional artist, actors, dancers, & musicians. We need this school to offer the community an alternative to lifestyle their environment may dictate.

Don't transfer our tax dollars for schools to your corporate buddies. That's called crony capitalism. If your school is better open it and let the parents and students decide who's the best.
