A zoning request has been submitted that would result in the demolition of the oldest house in Tyler, Circa 1847, and a quadplex built in its place. Help us save this Tyler Treasure! Sign this petition in support of preserving this historic house!
I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by the momentum behind this house. This response truly belongs to all of you who care about the history of our town.

The 1847 house needs repairing, and it should be given a historical marker. Maybe it could become a museum or a City of Tyler property?

Given the small site, it is difficult to see how a quadraplex could be built without parking or driveway access. We cannot let Tyler's oldest house be demolished.

My name is Sam Gerdes and I recently restored a 1938 Tudor home in Smithville, Texas. Please save this house! She is worthy!

My friends family grew up in this home. So many memories they have shared with us and I know they’d hate to see it vanish. Please keep it!!!

May is National Preservation Month. Set a good example, City of Tyler, and show that you understand the value of history, culture, and sense of place in your community.

If you look at the modern multi family dwellings that pock mark the historic neighborhoods in Tyler, you will find that the buildings aren’t maintained and they are glaringly unsuitable for the “historic” neighborhoods. Please don’t allow this to happen again with this old house.

Save this historic home. It can never be built again.
