Tyrone Township’s Historic Town House resides on property that has been sold by our Township Board. To stay under public ownership, the building must be relocated. The Historic Town House represents 134 years of community heritage, a place to gather, and community identity for families that have built and served this community for decades. Action must be taken to save our Historic Town House.

We, the undersigned, are concerned residents who urge our leaders to act now to collaboratively plan, and execute said plan, to move the Historic Town House from Center Rd to the new Tyrone Township Office location at 8420 Runyan Lake Rd Fenton, MI 48430 within the contracted easement deadline of March 2023.

This petition is sponsored by the Tyrone Township Historical Society and Residents for Community Preservation. Neither group is affiliated or representative of Tyrone Township as a municipal entity. This petition serves as another data set aimed at collecting our own factual assessment of community interest in saving our Historical Town House. It does not replace or diminish the importance of filling out and returning the Tyrone Township sponsored survey sent in your summer tax bill. Residents are welcome to participate in both the survey and the petition.

Petition will conclude on August 1st, 2021 and tallied results will be shared publicly. Thank you for your support!

Updates

July 1, 2021

I spent the afternoon walking past our Town House and thinking about how many generations of our families have passed through those doors. I am talking with local contractors to see what a move would actually look like because we refuse to let another piece of our local history just disappear.

July 1, 2021

Seeing this much support for our Town House proves that our local history truly belongs to the people. I spent many Sunday afternoons in that building as a child and it warms my heart to see so many neighbors fighting to keep these memories alive.

The township should have continued on with the tradition of caring for the township hall. All of the prior township boards were fiscally able to maintain the building of these years. I’m sure some years money was tight! Somehow they managed. Linden preserved a gazebo recently. Rose township is saving a barn. Troy rents out a historic building and stated it generates income fir their township. I wish our township representatives would have a more interest in the history of our community. Such a shame to see a historical structure be cared for so many years only to let it go! I’m guilty of not following the agendas closely but I feel they could have had not thorough communication with Tyrone Township residents about this.

It is important to have interested participants in discussions with Township board to develop a detailed plan, with accurate data , in order to make an informed decision.

This shouldn't even be a debate or fight. The township needs to do what should have been done in the first place. Move the old hall to the new property.

In a time when our history is being erased it would be a shame not to save this wonderful piece of our communities history.
