Bottom line: There is a shortage of parking downtown Charleston. We, the employees of Charleston's world renown hospitality, are asking the city to help us find satellite parking. The parking near Joe Riley stadium is a fantastic spot, but there could be spots in Mt. Pleasant and West Ashley. Imagine a park and ride system for hundreds, if not a thousand hospitality employees. Carta could step in and offer shuttle busses(that runs on a regularly scheduled program). We understand that there would be a cost involved, but it is one we are happy to pay. Parking garages are $16/day and that just isn't reasonable 5 days a week. We feel satellite parking will alleviate the "struggles of parking" for everyone involved. Thanks for your time.

im still having people reach out with stories about losing half their daily pay just to park near work. i have been emailing with a couple of people at the transit office to see if a shuttle pilot is even on the table right now. silence on their end so far but i am not letting this go.

the momentum behind this lately is honestly blowing me away. its cool to see so many of us finally speaking up about the parking nightmare we deal with every single shift.

Ignored repeated attempts to negotiate with the parking garages have resulted in nothing. And taking the rate from $3 to $16 is egregious and irresponsible. Let's find a solution to the parking issue that works for everyone, not just the city's coffers.
I work on cumberland 5 days a week. I can't afford to pay $16 a day!!!! That's $80 a week, $320 a month!!!!! Just to go to work! Please help us.
I have been bartending and managing at restaurants in downtown Charleston for over fifteen years. I assure you, this would benefit everyone involved. More parking for clientele, less hassle and cost for the people who cater to them...
I like the idea. But what about those who aren't in Eest Ashley or mt pleasant. Those are just extra driving for those from north Charleston and Summerville. Trully if this is the route taken there should also be a hospitality parking deck downtown with lowered rates just for employees. This deck would be for those who don't live near these parking places for buses to run.
I'm a manager in the food and beverage industry and I fully understand that the continued growth and success of our restaurant could not happen without affordable parking for our employees. The infrastructure for public transportation across island communities is non-existent. People must drive to work. Our industry wouldn't exist without workers and we have to figure out a way to fix this issue.
Asking too much from under paid and hardworking people.
Something really needs to be done to alleviate the garage issue. We shouldn't be punished for our profession.

The recent elimination of stamped $3 parking at Cumberland garage is a slap in the face and a loss of over $2,300 for full time hospitality workers. Thank you for putting some ideas together. The current situation is truly ridiculous.
