We, the students of Birmingham-Southern College, officially petition the college president, Dr. David G. Pollick, to address the issue of commuter parking. Samford University, the University of Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Auburn University all have special parking for commuter students. In a bid to keep competitive pace with other schools, it is necessary that Birmingham-Southern College adopt policies that are friendly to students that prefer the daily commute to on-campus living. Additionally, given the already acknowledged shortage in parking spaces on campus, it is irrational not to give parking preference to those students who drive to school daily as a necessary part of their routine. We the students ask that Dr. Pollick address this serious issue by creating commuter parking spaces with corresponding decals or by assigning a parking lot for the commuters. Moreover, we ask that he do this by the Fall school term, 2008.
