Under current California State law, only same sex and opposite sex partners (opposite sex partners can only apply if at least one person in the partnership is 62 or over) who live together can file for Domestic Partnership Rights in the state of California. This petition is for the purpose of allowing opposite sex partners to apply for Domestic Partnership Rights in the state of California at any adult age (18 and over) . Meaning, neither partner in a opposite sex partnership has to be over the age of 62. This will allow opposite sex partners of any adult age to have all of same rights protected and guaranteed under the current California State Domestic Partnership Registry. This includes rights and protections under law given to spouses. Some rights include child rights, death rights, and benefits. Rights are outlined in California's Family.Code Section 297-297.5, but 297(B) only grants Domestic Partnership Rights in California to opposite sex couples where one person is at least over the age of 62. This proposed change in the State of Californias Domestic Partnership Rights may contribute to less divorce and an increase in California revenue with more people being able to register for domestic parnership and having to pay all applicable fees.
