This is a photo of my dog, Huckleberry. I am heartbroken over his tragic death. A Sag Harbor Village road maintenance truck accidentally hit him while I had him out for a run at the grassy area of Havens Beach. The accident that took Huck's life made it clear that it is not a safe place for dogs (or humans), and his death has driven me to make something wonderful and positive happen out of this awful tragedy.

Sag Harbor needs an official dog park. For a community of dog lovers, we feel it's important to recognize the evolution of the grassy field at Havens Beach into a dog park. As of now, people bring their dogs to Havens Beach to play in the field. However, it is not safe, there is no fence for the dogs to be protected from the parking lot, and nothing prevents the dogs from running into the street, or onto the beach and into the water.

We would like a fence to be installed, this fence would not only provide protection but would help owners have a safe place to train and socialize their dogs. It would be cleaner, environmentally friendly, and solve the problem of the dogs running into the parking lot and on to the beach. I support making the grassy area of Havens Beach an official dog park.
