Currently, the main entrance to Saint Raphael School from the back parking lot into the Gathering Area remains unlocked throughout the school day. Anyone has access into our school and into the Gathering Area where there is a constant flow of children into the music room, PAC and cafeteria. Phase 2 Plans for the new Church at Saint Raphael DO NOT ADDRESS THESE PROBLEMS. These doors would still be the main entrance to both the School and the Church and would remain unlocked during school hours. In light of events in Connecticut and throughout our nation, we must realize that our schools are unfortunately a target of violence. Though no one likes the idea of creating prison-like environments in our schools, We need to face the fact that our world has changed and we must change with it. We are not asking for armed guards or metal-detector searches. 
We are simply asking for the following:

1.  ALL doors into our school be locked during school hours. Visitors be viewed via a camera/video and be buzzed into the school. 
2.  Phase 2 Plans for the new Church be revised to address security of the school and provide a separate entrance to the church and Community Room.
All outside entrances to the Church would remain unlocked throughout the day to allow parishioners access to the church for mass or to pray.
