Truly Think The Council Would Sell Their Own Grandmother If They Thought There Was A Quid Or Two In It.

Tendring council are wanting to sell the clacton queen stream roller it has been maintained by a group of volunteers since 1990 and and now they want to sell it it needs a new boiler which the group are saving for and have half the money to replace they have had no money from the council to maintain the stream roller ever and I think it is yet again the council getting rid of the crown Jews with out thinking of the people of the town any thing you can do to help would be great thank you

I don’t understand what the problem is as it cost the council nothing at the moment to own the queen and when they move sites it will not be on council land yet they want to sell it for the £25000 which is nothing to the council (they spent £90000 doing up some toilets) yet this is our history they are selling off it’s not there’s but it’s the people of clacton that own it

The pressure from this response has prompted a formal meeting request with the council cabinet members regarding the sale. Legal counsel is drafting an official inquiry to challenge the valuation basis they are citing. I will provide a summary of the outcomes from that session once it concludes.

My Dad has helped to keep this running.he is also one of the drivers.people travel from all over the country to see the steam roller and these people spend their money in the towns shops. Many people have given hundreds of hours to keep this old girl going for everyone to enjoy.

Why would clacton want to sell this I’ve been visiting clacton for years. Every time I see this marvellous piece of machinery I am in ore of it. Please don’t let your community down. It’s the only thing you have where each generation an have an experience without it being computerised Or electronically controlled.

May be they should concentrate on finding a buyer for the white elephant formally known as marks and spencer after spending 3 million pounds of our money without consulting the residents rather than selling a piece of local history that costs them nothing to maintain, but that's tdc all over, couldn't run a bath between them!!!!

I remember the steam roller going past my home when I was a child in the 1940s. It took coal from the railway station to gas works

There are 4 who qualified with a Group G licence to keep this on the road, and have put many hours and effort in to keep it going, and to raise funds to that end. Help us keep it in Clacton.

I have seen the loving work these guys put into maintaining this. It would not be worth £25k without their painstaking effort. This is a feature of Clacton and should be run under a trust.

Total disgrace, volunteers keep it going and then the council want to sell it. It’s part of the local history of the town.
