A petition to re-establish a rail line between Casino and the Gold Coast to utilise existing infrastructure, reduce fuel consumption and lessen rural isolation. With a burgeoning population in rural Northern NSW, a heavier reliance is being placed on roads, creating an insufficient transport system to cater for the population. Employment and educational opportunities are centralised in the city, making travel to the city a difficult and often unaffordable expense. The dire transport system has created a distinct dichotomy between metropolitan and rural areas. Albeit, existing railway infrastructure exists between Casino and the Gold Coast and with financial assistance, it could be a panacea to the transport quagmire. Rehabilitation of this line would allow connections to major cities including Sydney and Brisbane through existing rail networks. The signatories of this petition call for the NSW government to allocate funding towards rehabilitating the rail line between Casino and the Gold Coast to create a more carbon neutral, efficient transport system for those living in rural, Northern NSW.
