Do you care about the future of the Highland City Library??
A public hearing impacting the growth of the library is scheduled for July 19th. This meeting will decide if property earmarked for a future library should be sold to a private developer which, currently, does not have plans for a library. We are encouraging citizens With many different ideas, feelings, thoughts, opinions or information relevant to this issue to attend the meeting with us, July 19, 2016 7 p.m. Council Chambers at City Hall, to hear from the council their ideas and plans for Highland City and the library.
While we recognize growth for the library is not restricted to owning this property, we do feel its relevant to the deliberation.

We, the community of the Highland City Library, petition the Highland City Council to not surplus/sell the property dedicated for the future library.
Library growth and potential is not limited entirely to tax revenue. The sale of this property to a private developer will impact more than the library and its patrons. It significantly impacts the arts community, educational opportunities, information access, and communal outreach and engagement for Highland City.

The city council expects us to stay quiet while they sell off our future library space to private developers. Call your district representative today and tell them that this land belongs to the public. If they hear from enough of us they will have to put this sale on hold.

Our entire family is at the library weekly and would love for the land to be used for what it was intended for. It would be wonderful to see the children's section expanded and have extra space for additional programs and/or storytimes for the littles and their parents.
We live in alpine and go to the highland library. Though it is small, we love to go and appreciate the programs. My kids are 1 and 3... I hope to shape their future by teaching them to love to read and learn. The future of the library is important to us.
Highland Library must be part of a county wide system and needs new electronic checkouts as well; If keeping this property allows us to do that than I am for it; is there a way to sell the property and use the money to grow Highland City Library?
Libraries are an essential part of a community. This land should be preserved for literacy needs and the arts. I have taught in this area for 14 years. My Highland students benefit greatly from our local library. As a teacher and patron I was so excited when it opened. However, it needs to be expanded.
The city should hold onto this land. Future expansion of the library could include participation from neighboring cities or the county, making this more economically feasible for the city and allowing the library to serve a broader population.
Love the library. When our kids were little we visited the library in our town once a week at least. We want our grandchildren, 18 of whom live in Highland to have the same opportunity.
We have recently moved to Highland this past year. The library where we lived played an important role in my children's lives. We were regular attendees to toddler and preschool story times. We enjoyed all the events the library put on and it became one of our favorite places to visit each week. The library events strengthened our small community. My kids have gained a love for literature and reading from our visits to the library. Moving to Highland, I was a little disappointed with the size and offering of the Highland Library. I would love to see the Highland Library expand and be able to offer similar services for my kids. Having a good library that can provide the needs of its' families and residents is essential for building a strong community!

We waited years to have a library in this community! And such a wonderful library it is! But this community it's growing so fast, soon we will outgrow that space. Do not limit our library growth by selling that land!
