Dr. Robert L. Savoy is the godfather of fMRI education in neuroimaging and specifically fMRI, as he has been organizing and teaching his week-long fMRI course as well as a myriad of other neuroimaging and multi-modal courses continuously every few months for the past 24 years! The impact that he has had on the field – on the minds of so many neuroimagers - cannot be understated. He was among the very first instructors in fMRI and is still teaching today. A large fraction of the leaders in the field have attended his course – receiving their first in-depth instruction on fMRI and neuroimaging there. I have been on Dr. Savoy's staff for his fMRI teaching fellowships for the last 2.5 years. He is the epitome of a phenomenal teacher, organizer and person, and has provided invaluable assistance to researchers around the world. Even though I am the most junior on his faculty, he always integrates me and makes me feel as welcome and important as some of the most esteemed members of the team (and that is saying something - we have neuroimaging pioneers on staff!). I have learned so much from him both personally and professionally and I cannot think of anyone better to receive this award. I feel truly honored and blessed every time I assist with his courses and they deserve to be credited as the groundbreaking pieces of history that they are.
