A petition co-ordinated by senior students at Te Matauru Primary.

After school each day we walk across Townsend Road and the West Belt roundabout in a group with some of our teachers but our school is growing quickly and we need to have road crossings and a slower traffic area so that we can cross safely.

If you live in West Rangiora or drive through this area, please sign our petition to make this area safer for all of us.

weve been watching cars fly through that roundabout during pickup and it just feels like its only a matter of time before something bad happens. spent the afternoon talking with some neighbors who are just as worried as we are about how fast people drive near the school.

we just hit 100 signatures and i am seriously blown away by all the support for the kids. thank you all for backing this cause because it really shows people care about keeping the streets near our school safe.

i honestly cant believe how much momentum this has picked up lately. seeing so many people from around town get behind the kids is just incredible and it shows how much everyone cares about getting them home safe.

We need reduced speed and school patrol stop signs and zebra crossing on Townsend Road. We live in the Townsend Fields subdivision and I walk to school everyday with my 5 year old and baby in pram and it is not safe for children to cross without this due to the speed and amount of cars.

I would expect every school in NZ to have a crossing at there school and was actually shocked to see that our new primary school doesn’t have one. The area is currently growing with a new sub division and surely this should be a priority. I would hate to see an accident before anything is done to protect our tamariki.

I believe there should be school crossings and a low speed limit on both sides of the school. I have noticed the huge increase of traffic in Townsend Rd, so many people use that road to access John's Rd, West Belt. I've also noticed people heading into Rangiora that way.

As a nana who picks up her granddaughter from the After school programme occasionally, we have experienced traffic issues with this road. Wholly support this petition

Yes the roundabout is dangerous, there should be no crossings so close/in a roundabout intersection. There should rather be 2 crossings made into ACTUAL pedestrian crossing made further away from the intersection. Teaching children what actual pedestrian crossings look like, and reminding motorists that they still do exist.

The council must sort this asap as the roads around Te Matauru primary are incredibly busy.
