Apparently, on February 23rd, the Tinton Falls Board of Education voted to accept a calendar for school year 2015-2016 that has the 1st day for student on the Thursday BEFORE Labor Day. As many summer programs run through Friday Sept 4th, and we live in a shore community where summer runs through Labor Day weekend, many of the community children will have conflicts for the first two days of school and be unable to attend. We also feel it is a bad precedent to set to have a start date for students prior to Labor Day weekend, especially with how late school gets out in June. The kids need their summers, too, and shouldn't be forced to miss the first two days of school in order to complete summer programs they've looked forward to during the year. By signing this petition, we are hereby requesting as a community that the Board of Education revisit this start date and revise the school year 2015-2016 calendar to have students begin on Tuesday, September 8th.
