The car park on Ascot High Street is used by a variety of individuals for many purposes. These range from dog walkers using the local park, employees at local businesses and customers of local businesses.

We appreciate that the council may need the extra revenue, but this car park has always been a free car park, and it is a pity that local residents, employees and other visitors will now have to pay the charges being implemented by the council later this month. This affects many people, especially employees who have not had this cost previously as well as local businesses, as customers could potentially go elsewhere. People are likely to park on nearby roads creating issues for those living in the nearby area. Additionally, whilst some businesses received notification of this development, other businesses have not received any advance information regarding this new charge. Better communication of these plans would have been appreciated.

Our request is that the local council reverse the decision to start charging for Ascot High Street car park due to the effect it will have on locals and employees.

Updates

April 11, 2016

The feedback from local business owners has been clear because they were left entirely in the dark about these parking changes. Contact your local council representative today to demand a formal meeting on this decision. We need to keep the pressure on until they publicly address the impact on our employees and shoppers.

April 11, 2016

The momentum behind this campaign is undeniable and it proves the council misjudged how much this decision hurts our community. Email your local representative today to demand they halt these parking charges before the new rules take effect.

I work as a keyworker and live at Heatherwood hospital,as you well know there is no parking on site so carers nurses and doctors rely on free parking as otherwise we would not be able to get around due to the poor public transport to Slough and Windsor from Ascot.

I believe there should be free parking available particularly those only requiring to stop for short periods to visit the bank or chemist or shops. A penny pinching idea that will impinge on shop keepers !!

As an employee in the high Street, this car park is a brilliant for location and the fact that its free. I work part time, so to then have to pay to park my car will be a considerable lump from my wages. shocked, upset and very dissappointed.

Ascot High St already congested if parking charges are made, many people will avoid parking in the car park, look for spaces in the street causing more congestion and many will stop using the shops. There

Very unhelpful of RBWM. The free parking was one of the few perks small High Street small businesses could give their employees and customers. The lack of consultation is shocking

I work in Ascot but live in North West London so it is quite expensive to get here already. Any additional cost as in parking charges would actually deter me from working here.

Ascot make enough money at Ascot week to last the whole year, why charge the local Residents?
