Add Option For Reverse Parking to Rules
Waterside residents would like to amend the rules to allow the option to park in reverse. The rule against it dates back to the 1970's and needs to be updated because:
1. Research shows that the practice reduces accidents and fatalities.
2. Research shows that for both safety and efficiency purposes, the experts say that it's usually best to back into a parking space. That's because having a wide field of vision is more important when you are pulling out of a parking spot than it is when you are pulling in.
3. Research also shows that backing out of a space is far more disruptive and hazardous. It is much better to enter the flow of oncoming traffic with the front of your vehicle than to back into it.
If successful, the amendment will allow residents the option to either pull forward or pull in reverse.
The amendment will do the following:
In Section A. General Rules, Part 1.1 delete the word "should never" and replace with "can" delete the words "and the front" and replace with ". No part" and delete the word "not" prior to the word "encroach"
