The Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Minister Wycliffe Smith has denied the request to extend the Christmas Vacation Schedule from January 2nd to January 7th 2019 twice because "school vacation schedules are created three years in advance" and it "had been provided to school boards at the time".
Our WITU President sent in a request on the Teacher's behalf, it was denied. Our Milton Peters College Students sent in a request on student's behalf, it was denied.
Here is an alternative proposal:
What about closing school three (3) days later in the Summer Vacation Schedule 2019 and adding those days in January 2019. We are
humbly asking our Minister to consider his decision made.

The Minister keeps pointing to old schedules while ignoring the reality of the situation for students and staff. I have been directly emailing the Ministry to push for the summer swap proposal. Call the Ministry office today and ask why they refuse to discuss this alternative.

Some students/teachers might not be on the island. On the other hand, why would you want to start school right after new years? People are still celebrating, you are not giving people enough time to get back in the groove to work/go to school. Regardless majority won't be attending school on these days until the 7th. Why start school in the middle of the week? -VT
I am in favor of returning to school on the 7th of January. January 2 nd does not allow for recuperation from the holiday.
We as students not coming. They have to deal with us every day. Don't punish them more by coming school to teach empty classrooms
This is the time most of us are with our family having quality time together. It will be abrupt cut off if by 2nd of January have to return to school and work.
I agree and think it's a fair request. The students have made it clear that they are returning on January 7th. Teachers will show up but our classrooms will be practically empty.

Students and Teachers should get more time to spend with their loved ones. Especially because the two upcoming holidays during this time is usually spent with family and friends locally or abroad. Seeing that these holidays are special to most it would reward and motivate the hard workers to come back to work more relaxed and refreshed.
