Walking down these empty streets lately reminds me of exactly what we are losing. I have been spending my mornings talking to long-time vendors who miss the energy of the crowds. We are currently figuring out how to bring these concerns directly to the planning committee.

Seeing this much energy behind the fair returning to our streets brings back so many memories of childhood summers. It proves that the heart of our community is still beating strongest right where we belong.

Now age 56 ive been to many many fairs in my life but the street fair on Portland always had the best atmosphere and always made me feel as excited as a small child - traditions like this should not be broken and new generations should be able to have the wonderful memories from it that we all did!
portland fair has been a lifelong tradition on our isle, it was situated on the road at chiswel , and was huge thousands used to come for the two day event on november 5th ,portland fair was the last call for the seasons owners , and was a thrill for everyone ,in 2007 it was voted to be removed from the above road and sited on a piece of land nearby, the date of the fair has also been put back by 2 weeks which was totally out of order , and since this has happened the size of the fair has been reduced to a handful of rides and stalls, which has spoiled it for the whole island, i/we the majority of the people of portland want it back to how it used to be .
i too loved this as a child. Always talked about how amazing it was to my own children. Sadly they have never seen it like that, just worse every year.
i live in chiswell for the past 26 years and my hubby since a baby and we miss the fair outside our house...was a great time to catch up with old friends and we all have fantastic memories...first the fair, then bonfire night and that was the start of excitement before christmas...not the same any more.
Was much better along chiswell and in the car parks. Would give more trade to the pub, Indian, pizza place too I believe so helping local businesses!
It's a must to survive as fair has gone down hill since

I no im NOT living on Portland right now, But we (kids n me) had loads of fun BEFORE IT GOT MOVED. How can you call it a fair,. I mean come on. 2 rides aint a fair. so BRING BACK THE STREET FAIR.
