On June 25th of 2011, Tiffany Kennedy's insurance company approved her doctor's request for IVIG treatment for her hypogammaglobulinemia (an immunodeficiency). Her letter of approval states that she will receive 12 doses- one per month. "Coverage is effective until 6/20/2012" reads the letter. That is unfortunately not what she was given. After only six doses her insurance company unexpectedly pulled from it's obligation and refused to pay or explain their decision. Still owing her 6 doses, they stopped payment. IVIG is an intravenous treatment given to people with Immunodeficiencies. It is the first line of treatment for many primary immunodeficiencies. Having an immune deficiency means that your immune system is constantly compromised. IVIG corrects this and allows patients to live normally. It is vital to many, many patients including Tiffany. After experiencing multiple infections and viruses, she has decided to contact her senator in effort to re-establish her treatment coverage.
