Today, many insurance companies are making life-changing decision when it comes to your health. August 23, 2018, I received the devastating news that my breast cancer had returned and metastasized to multiple areas of my body, particularly my thoracic spine. Although grounded in faith, my trusted medical oncologist and I discussed a treatment plan best suited for me, a newly diagnosed stage 4 cancer patient filled with HOPE to FIGHT and WIN!
On September 4, 2018, United Healthcare (UHC) rendered a final decision to deny a medically accepted treatment drug. Xgeva (denosumab) is an injection antibody used to treat bone problems as a result of cancer that has spread (metastasized) to the bones. Even after (2) peer to peer consults with UHC, they deny covering the expense of the drug. However, what is most appalling, disingenuous, and simply inhumane; UHC instead recommended that my oncologist use another drug (Zometa) which has been proven to cause bone fractures? PAUSE! Why is UHC recommending different treatment drugs opposite of the recommendation of my physician who knows my medical history? They have NO right, neither do they have my permission to play with my life or with the lives of ANY patient.
All too often, we silence our voices to norms, and we normalize things that are wrong until that very thing begins to impact our lives. We have every right to STAND and Speak OUT!

I have been reading through all your stories and honestly it feels like my own situation is just the tip of this massive iceberg. It is exhausting to spend so much time fighting with insurance companies when I should be focusing on my health but seeing all of you speak up makes me feel like maybe they actually have to listen to us eventually.

I am honestly floored by how many people keep showing up here because it really feels like the world is starting to listen to what is actually happening. It is wild to see this movement grow so fast when all I wanted was to stop them from playing games with my life. This momentum is just incredible and it keeps me going on the hard days.

Fighting for treatment and fighting for your life should not be a battle for a 2018 cancer patient.
Don't play doctor UHC, or play with our health!! Approve Dr recommended treatments that could SAVE us NOT HARM us
I am writing you on the behalf of my friend Nicole Robinson who has been denied insurance coverage for her medication. We feel like this medication is medically necessary in order to treat her condition.
Our health and healthcare services are more critical and needed today than ever! I stand with a patient’s right to choose and use the healthcare services recommended by the patient’s physician and NOT be dictated by the insurance companies! It should be on the conscious of all the decision makers that they’re controlling the faith of someone else’s life!
When we paying our dues there no questions but when we require services now it's a problem he have to stop these big business insurance companies from denying people what they pay for

Allowing the healthcare provider and the patient to be the deciding factors and what treatment is best for that patient in their current condition should be required not the decision of the insurance company deciding what a person should take I should not take in regards to their care. Patient’s choice should come first…
