We believe the DuPage Forest Preserve Board of Commissioners should responsibly preserve and restore the McKee House because of its historic, architectural, cultural and aesthetic importance to DuPage County residents. We are petitioning the Board to:

  • Vote “No” to any demolition of the historic landmark McKee House on St. Charles Road in Churchill Woods Forest Preserve;
  • Take immediate action to stabilize and preserve the McKee House for future generations.

The momentum is undeniable now. Seeing this much support tells the board they cannot ignore us.

This building could be used as a stop for bikers from the region. It could bring people to Glen Ellyn and the downtown shops and restaurants. TIF funding might help.

I'm a licensed builder, licensed building inspector and certified lead testing inspector with many years experience in historic restoration and adaptive reuse in Detroit and SE Michigan. I've seen too many good buildings go down because of greed, ignorance and lack of will.

The Mckee house needs to be used as a learning center for nature like Fullersberg. It's a shame to to pay the huge amount of demolition costs when it could go toward making this something we could be proud of, not sorry for.

My family is from the area and sadly to many historic buildings are seen as no longer important or to costly to restore. Please preserve this building for future generations.

While tax dollars are poured into other projects, the preservation of this historic home is located is too expensive? NO this is a false argument and shows how limited the thinking of the current Board truly is. SAVE OUR HISTORY.

The McKee House has historical significance and should be preserved. This well-built structure has embodied energy. (Embodied energy is the energy consumed by all of the processes associated with the production of a building, from the mining and processing of natural resources to manufacturing, transport and product delivery. I used to live in one of those homes. Charming, quirky architecture as it was a combination of the workshop, garage and outbuildings.

This is an historic treasure. It should not be a tear down. It should be saved.
