We need a responsible development plan for the future of the city of Grand Haven, Michigan. Sites like the proposed development 218 S. Harbor, known for the Dairy Treat, need to be treated with care and concern, balancing property rights, development, and aesthetic appeal.
Projects such as the currently proposed plan do not add a net value to our city. We need to ensure our current standards and building guidelines are carried out in such a way as to preserve the beauty of our unique city.
We want projects that enhance, not inhibit, the beauty of Grand Haven. The Waterfront area is the "front porch" of our community and building development should reflect this reality.
The Grand Haven Zoning Board of Appeals must work alongside the people of Grand Haven for the benefit of our community and visitors.
Let's keep Grand Haven beautiful together.

Seeing so many of you connect over the future of our waterfront has been truly humbling. This momentum belongs entirely to the people who care about keeping our city beautiful.

Holland and Muskegon have already addressed the need to maintain continuity with proposed development within key corridors. Continuity stabilizes a downtown and provides building blocks for long term stable growth while addressing property owners rights. Grand Haven needs to own up to its responsibility for future generations and develop long term solutions without caving in to short term interests.
I believe people should be able to develop their property, but I also believe development should be cohesive and responsible. Property owner rights must be balanced with the needs and general plan for the surrounding community. The community does not want to look back in 1, 2, or 10 years and wonder “What was the city thinking when they approved this?” I believe there needs to be more forward thinking about how this will impact the community so a development that meets the need of the property owner does not cause unintended negative consequences for community of Grand Haven
There needs to be some leeway for large strollers, pets on leases, wheelchairs...I have never heard of a building being erected at the very edge of a sidewalk. Especially since there isn't even a safe bike path along the street. The sidewalk congestion will be horrible!

Grand Haven zoning board failed long ago by allowing many hodge podge buildings along Washington as well as Harbor St. It’s not to late to start zoning with care and cohesiveness for the way this city looks.
Quaint little town is turning into high money tourist town. Catering to the big $ and attracting a class of people that care very little about the town itself. Keep the charm, GH is already loosing its appeal to a 25+ year resident. Cater to your long time residence not your seasonal ones

We need to have proper set back requirements and consistency in Grand Haven, especially along the waterfront. I don’t think it is expecting too much to require some green space between the sidewalk and the building being proposed, that way the overhang is not over the sidewalk.
