Citizens of Greer are concerned about the loss of the character of the town, due to rampant large scale developments. The city does not at this time, have a zoning ordinance that allows for these developments, so developers have been misusing the Design Review District zoning. This special zone was created to accommodate construction that would benefit the city, but fell outside existing regulations. It was never intended to allow for the wholesale devastation of our town.

We are demanding a moratorium on all apartment and town house development until, after careful consideration and input from the citizens of Greer, the city adopts a zoning regulation that allows for their construction.

Updates

December 1, 2021

The city council can no longer ignore this groundswell of residents demanding an end to their reckless exploitation of our zoning laws. These developers have been playing games with our town character for too long and now they finally have to face the heat.

The city is rubber stamping these projects before anyone can express there opposition. It's all about money for the city and they have no regard as to who or what is impacted as long as they can profit.

God only created so much real estate and we were blessed with what we have and every day I see more and more of it cut away never to return we have way too many subdivisions and way too many houses that are sitting here for sale right now not to mention all the new apartments and townhomes that have been built recently especially not far from where I live

I believe there are too many large developments that are being built without considering how it affects surrounding neighborhoods. The traffic and road conditions are not being considered for these developments. I hate to see a smaller town lose its small town charm. They call it progress but it makes me not want to go anywhere.

These developments are being squeezed into every tract of land they can fit them into. Doesn’t matter that they are completely surrounded by single family homes. The purpose of the city AND the zoning board should be to SERVE the community. Not ruin it.

The clear cutting of the natural areas is heartbreaking while the traffic is frightening, let alone dangerous. The zoning laws should be updated to insist money must be provided for roads and infrastructure for traffic and congestion.

We do not need any other housing communities built. Our streets can not handle the traffic, and the schools are already busting at the seams, we would be doing the students and teachers an injustice by adding more families to our area.
