We the closest descendants of Peadar Clancy, Easter Rising hero and War of Independence martyr, call on all political parties to respect the family wish that no single political party try lay claim to the life and legacy of our deceased grand uncle. His family members are proud of his sacrifice for the cause of Irish independence and his work in political activism and for Gaelic revival. As a member of Official Sinn Féin, the party he was a member of no longer exists (Official Sinn Féin having become, first the Workers Party, and then Democratic Left before ceasing to exist on the merger with the Labour Party in 2002), and as such all surviving members of his family, regardless of their own political views or party affiliations, know that his legacy is a shared one for all people and not one to be claimed, via naming of branches or otherwise, by any modern political party. We the close descendants of Peadar ask that all political parties respect our wishes, and that of the community of Cranny, Co. Clare (Peadar's home, who annually celebrate his memory), be respected in this manner.

Sincerely, the undersigned (Clancy family descendants - grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews).

RIDICULOUS that parties act like they own him. He fought for the whole country not for some modern office seeker.

Peadar belongs to history not to any party posters. Leave the family alone to honor him properly.

Proud to support the family on this. His sacrifice is being cheapened by these political games.
