This petition is for residents in the Wyre area only. Cleveleys, Fleetwood, Garstang, Poulton-Le-Fylde and Thornton.
We are petitioning to swap our Green recycling crates with the traditional Bins that are accessible to our neighbours living under Blackpool Council. After consulting with local residents, here is a non-exhaustive list of concerns we came across:
- Rats easily feed from the crates.
- Certain members of the elderly community struggle with lifting the crates, especially when there is more than one. This also extends to other locals who suffer with back pains or disability.
- Locals living in Flats/Apartments find that the crates often go missing and then have to wait for replacements.
- Environmentally Friendly: When people have filled their crates, they are using carrier bags in replacement, defeating the environmental benefits of recycling.
- The Green Waste bins are also used as an alternative for when the crates have filled too quick. We're then left with limited use of our Green bins.
- Windy nights!! Enough said.
- Smashed glass on the floor is stood on by children and pets.

I've moved house recently from Blackpool council area who have bins. Finding the small crates impractical, and useless for a family of four, with a collection once a fortnight, I am not recycling half the stuff I could be - as no room left in crate after a few days! FY6
Would be very helpful as bins are constantly getting lost / broken on the estate (Hawley Gardens), probably had 4 boxs in the 3.5 years I've been here, not lost a single bin. Surely it must be cheaper for the council to give 1 bin than multiple boxes. Just my 2 pence!
Yes a bin would be better, often spend ages picking bits up after a windy night. I also notice that the refuse collectors empty the boxes into a bin in order to put into the Lorry - seems a waste of time when a large bin could just be transferred using the machinery on the vehicle.
Carrying 2 weeks bottles, cans and plastic down a long driveway is ridiculous at my age. We live in one of the windiest places in England and invariably on recycling day boxes and their contents are strewn everywhere.
The green boxes are awkward to carry; the lids fill up with water when it rains and soak you when you pick them up; the lids blow away and you have to search the road for them; the recycling waste escapes and blows down the road; and many are broken.
Our bottle boxes blow all over the place and are simply not big even. Blackpool council provide bid the size of our cardboard bins

I live next to the coast! The wind is constantly blowing the bins across the road, knocking all bottle bins over. I’ve also had a bin lid fly straight past my head and smashed into my window, in high winds! The crates are not suitable or safe for residents near the coast!!
