Residents of New Ferry are fed up with the dirty, unlit state of the underpass at Thorburn Road, New Ferry, and ask that Wirral Borough Council takes proper action to improve its condition - particularly its lighting - to make it safer to use.

Residents are fed up with the poor lighting making it difficult for them to see when they are walking through dog mess and other rubbish, and making it feel unsafe when pedestrians/cyclists cannot see youths hanging around to spit at and verbally abuse them as they pass through it. It is also a known hot-spot for drug dealing.

The same issues are prevalent at the Beaconsfield Road underpass which also requires attention.

I honestly cannot believe we hit one hundred signatures already because I thought this would just be me shouting into the void about the mess at Thorburn Road. It feels like people actually want to walk through the underpasses without dodging glass or worrying about who is hiding in the shadows. Now that we have this momentum maybe the council will finally stop ignoring the fact that those lights are basically useless.

Both this subway and the subway in Beaconsfield Road, leading to the Mayfields are an absolute disgrace. They have been like this for years. The council have and continue to totally neglect New Ferry.

That underpass has always been bad even when the lights where working they where very dim and it is still smelly but a think more people would be happy just for the lights to be working put in stronger plastic that can't be smashed

I live at elmbank road and when I walk of a night from my mum with my youngest son I feel very scared like I could be robbed etc so I have to walk the long way round which takes an extra 10/15 mins

I live on Easton Road and have to walk through to get to the vets, I often think how little effort it would take to give it a nice clean up! New lighting and either a fresh paint or jet wash the paint off the original tiles would go such a long way.

The majority of New Ferry is being regenerated after the awful gas explosion. This subway needs to be safe to use, it will also prevent anti social behaviour in the area.

Part of the active transport offering by the council should be making it safe for pedestrians as well as cyclists. That subway is unsafe, walking through in the dark alone as a female is terrifying at night, it’s a crime hotspot and encourages graffiti with no lighting.

That subway was the reason we moved away as the only access to where we lived was through 2 disused parks and dark unsafe roads and that was 36 yrs ago and Wirral Borough Council has done nothing in all those years to make it safer!!!!

This underpass needs to be sorted out asap I know a lot of people that use this and I also know a lot of people that would use it if it was made a lot safer with adequate lighting making people feel less vulnerable
