Unincorporated Flagler and Volusia county residence who rely on FPL electric for power to provide water from our wells to households during a power outage are requesting and petitioning for priority status to have power restored during power outages

Updates

September 17, 2017

I am currently drafting a formal letter to the Florida Power and Light regional office to outline the specific impact that extended well water pump failures have on our residential properties. We are arranging a meeting with county representatives to discuss how emergency restoration protocols can better account for households lacking municipal water access.

September 17, 2017

The growth of this petition has reached a level that warrants direct engagement with FPL representatives. I am now finalizing the formal request for a meeting to discuss priority restoration protocols for well-reliant households.

We may not be a large community (but definitely not small) we rely on well and septic, if we have no electricity then we have no running water or sewage to live, it is of most importance that during an outage, power needs to be restored fast, not just due to a larger community.

These country communities should be prioritized over other developments that have municipal water. These communities without power have livestock and families they have no water for.

After hospitals etc, those who are on wells without water should be a priority. We need to drink, wash and flush toilets. We can live with heat and darkness, but going without water is a hardship.

Running water is not a luxury, it's a necessity we no longer use outhouses and each flush is approximately 2 gals. of water. Also a shower (even a cold one) would be nice and might aid in a nights sleep when temps increase after the storm.

Without power we have no water or sewage. We should be considered a priority since we relie on electricity for both.

Please make unincorporated Volusia County a priority when scheduling Workers to reconnect power.
