Request Oswestry Town/Shropshire Council instigate Town Centre Safety Survey immediately
Following the falling of concrete debris from the 'Sports Direct' building on Cross Street on the afternoon of 23rd April 2016, we request Oswestry Town/Shropshire Council take immediate action to ensure the safety of all using the town centre streets.

Walking down Cross Street today felt even more unsettling after seeing how much debris remains unsecured above us. I am still pushing the council for answers because my family walks these sidewalks every day and I refuse to wait for another piece of concrete to fall before someone takes responsibility.

Seeing this grow makes me feel less alone in my worry about walking under those crumbling facades with my children. It is clear that I am not the only one who feels unsafe in our own town centre.

I was inside shop when the concrete fell off roof. I was pushing my 4 week old baby in her pram. Something needs to be done to check safety of other buildings. Until then I won't unfortunately be going into Oswestry with my newborn. I am all for supporting local business but won't compromise safety.
This is the second incident in the past few years....we had guttering falling off a building on the other side of the road...We live here unlike many of these landlords, they need to realise their responsibilities before someone is badly hurt or even killed....if that ever happens...it will be too late. Either keep your property in good order or sell it to someone who will.
There are many old buildings and beautiful architecture in Oswestry town centre. They need to be checked for safety and preserved where necessary. We cannot afford another masonry fall like the one from Sports Direct. We might not be so lucky as to escape injury next time
I saw this falling as we were heading to sports direct, it could have easily fallen on my 6 month baby/partner and/or myself! It was also shocking to see the amount of people walking along the path directly underneath, emergency services came eventually! Thankful it has been made safe.......for now!
I'm sure there is a contingency 'fund' tucked away somewhere for this urgent matter. The amount of money wasted elsewhere is shocking. This simply shouldn't have happened and certainly should have the chance to occur again. This could have been a major incident with loss of lives. Simply too serious to ignore.
Land Lords are not protecting the public they just take the rents.
It was only a few years ago on the other side of the road that cast iron guttering crashed down after heavy snowfall.

This end of Cross Street looks neglected, dirty and in disrepair. Is there any money left following the sale of the cattle market for the centre of town? Thank goodness no one was hurt!
