The purpose of this petition is to represent the interests of those CBSD parents who want the district to offer ‘masked classrooms’ for each grade level, at least for the grade levels who have not yet had the opportunity to be vaccinated.
Masking in these classrooms would fall in line with current CDC guidelines for unvaccinated children to mask when indoors and around other unvaccinated individuals. This also falls in line with the 6/26 statement from the PA Acting Health Secretary Alison Beam, who stated: “Masks will still be required, regardless of vaccination status, in risky places such as nursing homes and schools.”
The goal of this petition is NOT to request universal masking for the district but to instead offer families an in person option requiring masks.
As part of the same request, we would like to make it so that these children are accommodated during lunch in an environment allowing for spacing and distancing and/or for these children to be cohorted at lunch. Furthermore, because (per correspondence from the district on 6/26) vaccination status cannot be verified, we are asking that teachers/volunteers and support staff mask while in these classrooms.
I am asking for people to include their child’s age and grade level in the comments. This will help to increase the over all legitimacy. Additionally, by indicating the age/grade of the child, we recognize that groups who have the opportunity to be vaccinated vs those who have not may receive different accommodations.
To add further to this petition’s legitimacy, I am asking that if 2 members of the same household or family are signing, that 2 separate emails be used, as I will attempt to filter out duplicate signatures attached to the same email address.
My goal is to submit this to the school board within the next 5-10 days (no later than 7/8) so that the district knows the numbers behind this request ASAP and can hopefully modify plans accordingly.

My child is in 10th grade and vaccinated, but I support this as an elementary school option until students are eligible to receive the vaccination.
We have a high risk child at home. We cannot send our 7 year old into enclosed spaces wit unvaccinated people unless she is masked. Her ability to go to school in person depends on this. She is seven. She deserves to go to school.
We would like our unvaccinated 1st grader to be masked if that is what the CDC recommends. We are following the concerning news stories about serious Delta variant outbreaks in the U.S. and abroad.
I have one child with chronic lung disease and asthma and another with asthma. I don’t see how I can send them to school in the absence of vaccines, social distancing or masks.
8 yo-third grade Very disappointed in this proposed plan!!! Our kids are required to have certain vaccinations and dental/medical exams, so why is this so different?! Very upsetting to not feel like I’m sending my child into a safe environment.

Masks will not work if only a few of the kids wear them! Having at least one mask required classroom for each elementary grade level is the best way to compromise; to meet everyone’s needs. Our district not following the guidance of the CDC is upsetting to me and many other parents.
