We, the property owners of Beech Mountain, NC believe that the Town Council has acted in a fiscally irresponsible manner in approving a nearly 50% increase to the year over year budget. We further feel that the revenue plan to fund the budget has placed an undue financial strain on us as taxpayers and citizens of the town.

The basis for the increased tax revenues is tied to a clearly unstable housing market and artificially inflated home values. We believe this decision will have long term negative impacts on the town and it's citizens. We do not believe there was adequate time and notification of this drastic increase and we require another open session to discuss in further detail.

Seeing 250 names on this list confirms that I am not the only one feeling the weight of these unfair tax hikes on my family. This response shows that our neighbors finally have enough of these reckless financial decisions.

My neighbors keep telling me how much this tax hike threatens their ability to stay in these homes. We are approaching our next goal and I need you to pass this link to two people who live here right now.

This increase is not justified. I own at Pinnacle Inn which is the highest paying entity on the mountain, not to mention the amount of Occupancy Taxes we pay for our short-term rentals. It would make more sense for the Town to share in the Occupancy Tax instead of penalizing individual property owners.

My wife and I are on a tight fixed income. We just bought our home in 2017 and you are forcing us to struggle and we may have to sell. Our income is not going up. We saved of 37 years to buy here and this is our dream home. Shame on you.

The market is over inflated , the value will drop significantly in the next 12 months , we should not have pay taxes on our property that are at the current prices , if the want to use those values then they need to drop the millege rate.

Most taxing authorities have limits to the amount that taxes can be increased in any 5-year period. Max 15% and no more than 5% in any one year. Beech is waayyy out of line.

I think this budget pads the reserves excessively. Given the continual creep upward in price of the utility bills (including capital fees), it seems like this amount of increase likely was not necessary to keep up the great progress on infrastructure improvements.

Many of the FT residents live on fixed incomes and have owned their homes for many years. Why punish the Locals for the artificially inflated home prices and strain on community services caused by the STR craze.

The town of BeechMountain has treated Pinnacle Inn homeowners like second class citizens for way too long. Pinnacle Inn funds over a half $1 million a year to the town in taxes. Let’s repeal the budget as a starting point.
