In order to save our failing economy, prevent more families leaving our island and encourage inward investment in the island of Alderney, our lifeline runway must be resurfaced immediately.

If this work does not start in Quarter 1 of 2025 there is a serious risk to the entire island’s economy and a risk to life if the CAA force closure of lifeline our airport. Our island does not have the luxury of a regular passenger boat service in the winter due to our poor weather. So the airport is our only way to access critical healthcare services included emergency services.

This petition is aimed beyond the States of Deliberation in Guernsey as we feel they have not grasped the urgency of our plight. We will take is to the UK Government and even to King Charles III if we have to.

It is important that people know, we are not looking for a £37m new airport development with a longer runway and bigger planes. We simply need our runway repaired and widened.

WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR FINANCIAL DONATIONS, PLEASE DO NOT DONATE!!!

WE ARE ONLY ASKING FOR SIGNATURES!

Please share this worldwide to save our island economy and peoples lives

Thank you

I have finalized the formal briefing document highlighting the safety risks of the current runway surface for submission to the Department for Transport. My focus has now shifted to securing a direct meeting with relevant officials to discuss their oversight responsibilities concerning our transport infrastructure.

Echoing what’s already been said. The airport needs a safe runway. The island needs this connectivity. We ourselves left this beautiful island because of the lack of flights and the horrendous prices. But safety is of utmost importance and the runway needs urgent attention…now.

I am one of those many pilots in the U.K. who has flown many times to this important and stunning Island and I am in support of surfacing the runway to keep it open to the outside world and to bring in economic benefits to the locals.

As someone who's a friend of a resident who's life was saved through medical air evacuation, I know how vital this resource to the lovely folk of this island. It must be maintained in a full and fit order for commercial aviation.

I've visited the beautiful island of Alderney multiple times, and by air is the only practical way for me to do so. It would be a huge loss from a tourism perspective if this were no longer to be possible, and I'm sure a much greater direct loss for the residents.

I fail to understand as to how the States of Guernsey are not obliged to resurface the runway at a specified time interval. Having been in ATC for 38 years, we were regularly subjected to runway resurfacing. Anyway, I have first hand experience of Alderney’s runway & it demands resurfacing.

Guernsey’s, (or any other runway probably) would never be allowed to get into the state ours is in. This is NOT just for visitors it’s needed for vital healthcare and education, as well as business. Let’s hope there isn’t a serious accident due to the poor state it’s in!!
