Brentwood Green is a school/community park that was created in 1997 by Brentwood residents to improve the playground and to provide a much needed park for our community. Brentwood Green was created by generous residents of our community who volunteered both their time and their money.

In 1999, Brentwood Green replaced the seven acres of cracked asphalt on the playground of the Brentwood Science Magnet School with a community park. This park was used by the students during school hours and was accessible to the community after school, weekends & holidays.

However, over the past few years the community has been locked out, granted access only on Sundays during the farmer's market. What was meant to be an open space for our families and our children in the afternoons, weekends and holidays is now being denied us.

If you would like to honor all of the hard work and money raised and make this part of our wonderful community once again, please sign our petition.

With your help we can show a united front to the Principal of Brentwood Science Magnet School and to LAUSD to let them know that we expect the gates to be open to the community that brought it into being.

Our kids are teenagers now but when they were little we used to take them there to the school to play all the time. Please open the park for all the little kids that love to play there. I remember the fundraising effort and the actual opening celebration. Our community made this happen. Please don't lock us out.

Community spaces are required to have a "community". Our family has made friends and connections with the limited opening time, imagine what the requested hours could do for everybody.

I believe that was the original intent. I'm a neighbor and helped in the planting of the park. No reason not have neighbors enjoy it while it is not in school use.

Our family has fostered meaningful friendships at this park. I understand there are safety concerns about opening the park on school days. But on non-school days, the community should be able to come together and create a mechanism to keep multiple gates open to the public.

We've lived three blocks from the school for 41 years and wanted all that time for the school to be open to the community on weekends and holidays. It is a shame to have a beautiful park closed to the community.

I agree that the community needs this open recreational space, especially since they provided the money for the improvements. However, I understood that there are issues of maintenance (cleaning), supervision and insurance coverage/liability.

THe school seems to have lost site of the original purpose of Brentwood Green. Hopefully this petition will help it to remember That it is for all of us to enjoy.

Why are we allowed to use this area only on week-ends?
