Petition for the Reinstatement of Remediation Opportunities and Enhanced Study Support
To the Deans, Professors, and Advisors of Joyce University Nursing School,
We, the students of 0426 ASN/2026, 0826 ASN/2026, ABSN and BSN program, are writing to formally express our profound concern and frustration regarding the recent policy changes within our program, specifically the removal of remediation opportunities.
It has become increasingly evident that our cohort is operating under a different set of expectations and support structures compared to past cohorts. The ability for previous students to participate in remediations offered a vital safety net and a crucial pathway to solidify understanding and improve performance. Denying our cohort this established resource feels inherently unfair and creates an uneven playing field that disadvantages our academic progress and overall success.
This change is particularly concerning amidst other ongoing adjustments to the curriculum and policies under recent administrative changes. We understand that educational programs evolve, but many of these recent shifts have not, in our experience, been to the benefit of our learning or well-being as students. The cumulative effect of these changes, coupled with the lack of remediation, is making our academic journey increasingly frustrating and challenging.
We believe that the reinstatement of a formal remediation process is critical. It would provide us with:
* A fair and equitable chance to address knowledge gaps and demonstrate mastery, mirroring the opportunities afforded to previous students.
* Essential support to succeed in rigorous coursework, especially when facing new or complex material.
* Reduced stress and improved morale within the student body, knowing that there are structured avenues for improvement.
If a full reinstatement of the previous remediation policy and exam reviews is not immediately feasible, we strongly urge you to implement alternative, robust support mechanisms that effectively serve the same purpose. This could include, but is not limited to:
* Comprehensive review sessions led by faculty that genuinely cover challenging material and common areas of difficulty.
* Significantly enhanced reviews and detailed study guides and review materials that actually go over the exams and genuinely help us succeed. These materials should directly align with exam content, provide deeper insights into key concepts, and prepare us effectively for assessments.
* Increased access to faculty office hours or dedicated tutoring specifically for content review and skill-building.
We are committed to our education and to excelling in this program. We respectfully request that you acknowledge our concerns and take immediate action to address this disparity. We are eager to collaborate on solutions that ensure all students have the necessary resources to thrive.

The school should support it's students by turning out the most qualified nurses it can. The program already relies heavily on students learning on their own and little interaction with professors. Taking away more options for student learning will only fail the students and the hospitals we go on to work at.
As an aBSN student who started with remediations and with an ASN cohort that received remediations as well as exams reviews (who still receive them despite them being taken away from us) I am disappointed in Joyce’s choices. I am a 4.0 student and this is setting us up for failure.
This policy needs to be reverted ASAP. I’m finishing this August from the program and very thankfully this does not affect me! But the opportunity to take a remediation even for just 5 points has saved me so much heartache and struggle and gave me the opportunities to study the topics that I missed on my exams which was absolutely crucial and beneficial to my success. Taking away remediation options will NOT be beneficial to the future cohorts and I find this to be outright disgusting to take away opportunities from them especially when it could make or break their future.
Please add the 08/26 cohort as many of us who were originally in the 04/26 cohort signed this. Remediation shouldn’t be offered to only some cohorts and then immediately taken away. Had we been given the same opportunity for remediation like them we would have passed certain course(s) instead of now paying thousands of dollars out of pocket. Show fairness and integrity across the board.
I am the husband of one of your students, and I witness firsthand the many long hours of dedicated effort that my wife puts into her studies. It is frustrating that after so much effort, the deficiencies in the program prevent her from achieving the academic results she so eagerly wants. Additionally, the high cost of tuition puts a heavy strain on our family, but we are willing to make these sacrifices in exchange for successful academic results. Those results are in jeopardy given the shortcomings mentioned in this letter.
We need exam reviews and exam prep sessions so that we can better understand the content of our exams and what we need to study for!! We need to be provided a FAIR opportunity to pass our nursing classes!!
As a student we would benefit from reviews prior to exams. As students we have a lot of information to take in and reviews prior to the exam help us focus on the ton of information we have.

With the workload that is more than a full time job, not being In person for classes and limited time with instructors with extensive material it’s importantant to have these remediations to improve learning, reteaching and comprehension of content that majority of the class was not taught properly on.
