PLEASE let me know what I can do to help reinstate parole in Virginia. I believe there are far too many people incarcerated who could be rehabilitated, rejoin society and be productive citizens. Some inmates went into the system as teenagers -- studies prove the brain is still growing at age 18. It is senseless to keep these young people incarcerated for the rest of their lives. Reinstate parole!

Everybody deserves a second chance. My son turned 18 just a few months before he got into trouble, made a bad decision. He basically received a life sentence. BUT he has changed -- his heart and soul are changed. All of the advice he received as a teen now makes sense and he pulls from this knowledge base to make better decisions. He and many, many others deserve to start over.

As a taxpayer in Virginia I ask how much does it cost to keep a person behind bars on a yearly basis. I am sure it is $34k up. I think we sure could use the money in better places. Virginia has closed quite a few prisons in the past years. Those buildings are sitting empty. One more thing, why does a person sit in Virginia prison with no rehabilitation, no alcohol/drug abuse programs, no sexual offender programs. Why because Virginia cut all programs. The prison system is the first to get cut when our government decides we need more money for something more important than peoples lives. So, what do you do......Make people sit in prison until they rot??? WRONG! One other issue: Judges can go above and beyond sentencing guidelines. For instance a 10 years sentencing guideline can result in a judge handing down a 45 year sentence. How is that fair???

I am a foot soldier for change. There is much that needs to be done to bringing back parole and retroactive too many families and communities are affected. I will share this
