Mr. William Albert Jones (#1114775) has been incarcerated in the Virginia prison system for 33 years for the crime of armed robbery. He has done everything humanly possible to rehabilitate himself and deserves to be granted parole. Everyone that knows him, including the Warden of his prison, agrees that he is not longer a threat to society and deserves to be freed from prison. However, time and time again, the Virginia parole board refuses to grant him parole. In 1978, Mr. Jones received 110 years for his 3 armed robbery convictions. He attempted to escape in 1979 and was given an additional 15 years giving him a total sentence of 125 years! This amount of time is incredibly unjust and unreasonable for the crime that he committed. There are hundreds and thousands of people that have been convicted of MURDER that receive and serve less time than Mr. Jones has. He has been denied parole 23 consecutive times and been given the same exact reason for denial which is, the "serious nature and circumstances of his crime". We all know that his crime will never change and everyone deserves a second chance in life. He was 19 years old when he went to prison and does not deserve to spend the rest of his life in jail due to mistakes he made as a teenager. He has great remorse for his crimes, and never once thought of actually harming others in his attempts to acquire money. For the last ten years, he has been a MODEL prisoner and has proven to be a respectable and admired man throughout the prison. He has a family that loves and supports him, and are willing to provide all the support he will need once he's released. All he needs is a chance to prove that he has indeed changed and has been rehabilitated. If the state of Virginia can parole murders, rapist, and child molesters, surely they can parole a man that only stole $10,000! Please join me in my fight to convince the Virginia state parole board that after 33 years of incarceration, William A. Jones deserves to live his life outside of those prison bars! We need at least 5,000 signatures to present to the Governor of VA to let him know just how UNFAIR and UNJUST we all feel the parole board is being to Mr. William Jones. The parole board needs to grant parole now for Mr. Jones, he has served more than enough time in prison and deserves to come home as soon as possible!
